Reconciling the bank feed
Updated 7 September 2026·4 min read
Once a bank feed is running, transactions arrive on their own and Financial IQ proposes what each one is. Your job is the handful it is not sure about, which on most mornings is a two-minute job rather than a Sunday.
Nothing is posted on a guess
Where a match is not obvious, it is left for you rather than filed quietly and hoped for. Uncertain is a state the software is willing to be in, and every match it does make shows what it matched on.
Working through the matches
- 1Look at what has already been matched
Exact amounts and references match themselves. Each one shows its reasoning, and any of them can be undone if it has read something wrongly.

Where two open invoices could both explain a payment, you are asked rather than guessed at. Picking one takes a click and teaches it for next time.

Change a category and it sticks, and similar transactions follow it afterwards. Correcting one thing is usually worth more than correcting ten later.
Things that trip people up
A payout, not a payment
Money from Stripe or a marketplace arrives as one lump covering many invoices with the fees already taken out. It is split across the invoices it actually covers rather than treated as a single sale.
Paid before it was invoiced
If money lands before the invoice exists, raise the invoice and the payment will match to it. Nothing is lost by doing them in that order.
It matched the wrong thing
Undo it. Every match can be reversed, and reversing one is a normal thing to do rather than a repair.
